  • The cultural partnership between the UAE and France has witnessed significant developments in recent years.
  • In October 2018, the Emirati-French Cultural Cooperation Year was announced in Paris.
  • Resultingly, a French-language radio was established in the UAE that broadcasts programs three times a week.
  • In December 2018, the UAE became an associate member of the International Organization of la Francophonie.
  • In November 2018, the Louvre Museum was opened in Abu Dhabi, representing the first international museum in the Arab world and the largest cultural project for France abroad.
  • The French President, during the opening ceremony, remarked that he considered it a universal message to foster dialogue between civilizations and to combat all forms of obscurantism.
  • Earlier, in 2006, an agreement on the establishment of the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi was signed.
  • Emirati-French cultural cooperation resulted in the establishment of the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict (ALIPH) in 2016, whereby the UAE and France contributed USD 45 million in cooperation with UNESCO.
  • The UAE also contributed 5 million euros to support the Arab World Institute in Paris in 2017, and in the same year the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Hall was inaugurated at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
  • Moreover, the UAE contributed to the restoration of the Imperial Theatre of the Château of Fontainebleau near Paris with a contribution of 10 million euros, and accordingly the theater was named after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
