- The relationship between the United Arab Emirates and its sister, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is an example of a fraternal relationship based on respect, cooperation and communication. It is a relationship between two brotherly peoples of one nation linked by ties of kinship and united by religion and a common destiny.
- In addition, the two countries are organized within the framework of many regional organizations. and international organizations such as the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and others.
- The beginning of bilateral relations between the two countries dates back to the early seventies of the last century. On 07/08/1973, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan received the late Hamdi Ould Meknes, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania.
- Then there was an exchange of visits between the two former presidents - may God have mercy on them - His Excellency Mr. Mokhtar Ould Daddah, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, who paid an official visit to the country on 04/28/1974, to which the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan responded with an official visit to Mauritania, which started on 13 / 08/1974, and lasted three days.
- These two visits had a great impact in drawing the foundations of cooperation and communication between the two countries at various levels.
- The meetings between the presidents of the two brotherly countries continued on the sidelines of the Arab and Islamic summit meetings, which pushed the process of cooperation forward in all fields. On March 11, 2008, former Mauritanian President Sidi Mohamed Ould Sheikh Abdullah paid an official visit to the UAE, where he discussed with His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, "may God protect him", ways to strengthen the bonds of relations between the two brotherly countries.
