Sudan is one of the first countries for UAE to establish diplomatic ties with in December of 1971.
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan made his first official visit to Sudan on the 20th of February, 1972, after approximately two and a half months of the union. Shiekh Zayed visited every state in Sudan. In return, former Sudanese president Gaafar Muhammad an-Nimeiry was the first president to conduct an official visit to the UAE which took place on the 23rd of April, 1972 and he was accompanied by an official delegation of ministers and representatives.
The ties between the two countries have massively improves especially since the visit of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan deputy prime minister of the UAE in 2001. After the visit it was decided to form a Joint Ministerial Committee between the two countries
