  • The United Arab Emirates enjoys close cultural ties with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, particularly with regards to charitable projects and collaborations in the cultural and educational sphere.
  • Since 2017, the Consulate has engaged in a number of cultural and charitable initiatives in cooperation with various partners and NGOs in the UAE. Every Ramadan, the Consulate undertakes the distribution of dates and hosts iftars for the Muslim community with generous sponsorship from the Emirati Red Crescent Society. The Consulate has also worked with local government accredited charities such as Hong Kong Society for the Blind, Christian Action and Helping Hand, among others.
  • In addition, the Consulate is keen to promote cultural exchange between Hong Kong and the UAE. Apart from having a regular presence in the annual Hong Kong Book Fair, the Consulate has also hosted events such as a screening of an Emirati film “Going to Heaven” at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, public lectures on tolerance in cooperation with the Hedayah International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism, as well as Arabic calligraphy workshops at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Halal Culinary Demonstration at the International Culinary Institute.
  • Cultural ties between the UAE and Hong Kong are also represented by continued official visits. In October 2017, Hong Kong sent its largest ever delegation to participate in the  44th WorldSkills Competition held in Abu Dhabi. In March 2018, the Planning Department of the Hong Kong government sent a delegation to the UAE, where both sides exchanged views and experiences on urban planning, smart cities, and sustainability. Moreover, Hong Kong athletes won a total of 92 medals at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games held in the UAE.
  • Many Hong Kong educational institutions are keen to organize field trips to the UAE. For example, the Chinese University sent a delegation of more than 30 students on a week-long field trip to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah in April 2019, where they visited museums, cultural spaces as well as institutions of higher education.
