On the 2nd of December 2019, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to Romania held a reception on the occasion of the the UAE's 48th National Day.
The National Day event was attended by almost 400 prominent senior government and military officials from Romania, headed by His Excellency/ Teodor Melescanu, The President of the Romanian Senate, as well as by former officials in the Romanian government, representatives of Romanian political parties, heads of diplomatic missions and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Romania.
On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Bin Saeed Al Matrooshi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Romania delivered a speech by means of which His Excellency emphasized that the 48th Celebration of the National Day of the United Arab Emirates coincides with declaring the year 2019 "The Year of Tolerance ", by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, thus proclaiming the United Arab Emirates the global capital of tolerance, this being a confirmation of the wise leadership of the country and of the fact that the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence are clearly embodied in the policies and initiatives of the country.
In delivering his keynote address, His Excellency also addressed the subject of the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Abu Dhabi, this year, which took place at the same time with the visit of Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders, indicating that this visit was the result of the constant efforts made by the UAE with the aim of promoting values such as moderation, peace and religious pluralism. Furthermore, His Excellency spoke about Expo 2020 Dubai, pointing out that it aspires, through its theme, " Connecting minds, creating the future" to create a meaningful legacy of tolerance and educate young people to show a spirit of tolerance and inclusion.
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Bin Saeed Al Matrooshi highlighted that the success of the UAE, nowadays, in providing a model for stability and tolerance in the region comes from its moderate foreign policy, based on its openness to the world, as it continues to promote the principles of strengthening international peace and respecting the others.
In addition to this, UAE Ambassador to Romania also mentioned that 2019 marks 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Romania, indicating that the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries have developed significantly along with the passage of time, as a result of the constant and dedicated cooperation between their leaderships.
