  • Brazil offers foreign tourists many types of tourism alternatives, such as; natural, historical, cultural and adventure tourism. The country has a wide geographical area and is characterized by diversity of climate, terrain and vegetation. Thus, it is recommended to draw up a schedule for the visit, involving information such as destination, residence and means of transport. Brazil crime and risk rate are decreasing.

  • However, it is recommended to take safety precautions: 

    • Avoid using jewelry, watches and carrying money in cash, in addition, avoid hazardous locations, consulting official authorities and avoiding requesting assistance from strangers.

    • It is recommended to check the required documents before arriving in Brazil to avoid immigration problems. 

    • The currency used in Brazil is the real (BRL). 
  • Healthcare: 

    • According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, foreign tourists who need health services may seek care free of charge in the emergency care network of the Unified Health System (SUS) through the following services:

    •  Mobile Emergency Response Service (SAMU 192) 

    • Emergency Care Units (UPA 24h) If foreign tourists wish, they may also resort to private health care. Remember that the payment of private medical services in Brazil must be made when providing the service.
  • Other information:

    • Pregnant women should consult a doctor before travel, as travel may affect their safety and comfort. 

    • If the visit includes Amazon, the following vaccinations are recommended: hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Yellow Fever. 

    • Malaria preventatives are also recommended by the use of repellents, pants, long-sleeved shirts and closed shoes, as there is no vaccine for malaria.

    •  You must have a photo ID such as a passport or driver's license. Keep a photocopy of your passport in a safe place in case the original passport is lost or confiscated.

    • In Brazil, there is punishment for possession, use or trafficking of illegal drugs.

    • In Brazil, smoking is prohibited in closed places for collective use (restaurants, bars, night clubs, hotels, inns, airports, among others).

    • When using a car, seat belts must be worn by the driver and all passengers. Children must be transported in child seats and children under 10 years of age should only be transported in the rear seat of cars.

    •  For motorcycles, helmet use is mandatory for both the driver and rider.
