- Diplomatic relations between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were formally established in 1974 and the Brazilian embassy in Abu Dhabi was established in 1978. In 1991, the UAE set up its embassy in Brasilia, the first in Latin America.
- The country also has a consulate general in São Paulo, whose new headquarters was inaugurated by the chancellor in March 2017.
- Bilateral relations have registered significant political and economic deepening especially since the 2000s. This process has been strengthened by official visits. In November 2013, then Vice President Michel Temer visited the UAE. The UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, visited Brazil in 2009, 2010 (Mercosur), 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019. The UAE Prime Minister and Vice President and Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, visited Brazil in 2014. Also in 2019, President Jair Bolsonaro traveled the United Arab Emirates, accompanied by an extensive ministerial retinue.
- Prior to the presidential visit, the Ministers of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communication, Marcos Pontes; of Citizenship, Osmar Terra; of the Environment, Ricardo Salles; and Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, also made separate trips to the UAE, with significant results. Brazil and the United Arab Emirates have excellent bilateral relations.
- In the last few years, double taxation, visa waiver and extradition agreements were signed, among others. Once the legal bases have been laid, the countries move forward with a view to deepening their cultural relationship.
