  • The diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Greek Republic began on June 21, 1976, and the establishment of a joint committee for economic, cultural and technical cooperation was signed on July 14, 1976 and entered into force by Federal Decree No. 79 of 1980. 

  • The Greek Republic opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi in 1989, The UAE mission was opened in Athens in November 2008. 

  • The joint committees held between the two countries:
  • First: January 11, 2012 in Athens. 
  • Second: May 5 - 6, 2014 in Athens. 
  • Third: May 3 - 4, 2017 in Athens 
  • Among the agreements that were signed: Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation, Air Transport Agreement, Double Tax Avoidance Agreement, Mutual Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, Energy Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the Joint Business Council between the Emirates and Greece, and others 

  • Refugee Camps: The Emirates Red Crescent has opened two camps in Greece in 2016, to house Syrian refugees fleeing the war in their country.

    • The first camp includes 331 residential units to accommodate 2,000 people, a medical clinic, parks, and educational and sport facilities. 
    • The second facility will house almost 1,000 refugees, with 159 units. 

The two camps were opened by a delegation from the ERC in the presence of Sultan Majid Ali, UAE Ambassador to Greece, and a number of officials.
