Will be my driving license valid in Bulgaria if I am an UAE citizen?

The UAE and Bulgaria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the mutual recognition of driving licenses in both countries. The citizens of the United Arab Emirates can exchange the UAE’s driving license with a Bulgarian one.

Will be my driving license valid in the UAE if I am a Bulgarian citizen?

Bulgarian citizens can use their driving license to rent a car in the United Arab Emirates by providing a translation of the driving license in English or Arabic without attestation from the Embassy needed. They can exchange their driving license issued by the Bulgarian authorities with UAE’s driving license which enables them to drive their own vehicle.

What is the procedure for attesting my document by the UAE Embassy in Sofia?

You can submit the payment at the Embassy using MasterCard or Visa. You could also secure online payment for the service on the website of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs using the service called “Attest Official Documents, Certificates and Commercial Invoices”.

Do I have to be present for the legalization of the document by the Embassy, or the Agency that I have appointed can do it on my behalf?

You can send a representative on your behalf to attest your documents if you can’t be present personally without power of attorney required.

Do I need my passport to be valid for a period exceeding the duration of my trip to the United Arab Emirates?

Your passport should be valid for at least six months before the date of your departure.

Are there specific requirements when traveling to UAE with children - Bulgarian citizens?

Taking a child under 18 years of age outside Bulgaria requires authorization (declaration in English or Arabic attested by a notary) of the other parent without an attestation provided from the UAE Embassy in Sofia needed. You should also find out about the requirements of the transport company regarding the documents to be presented when traveling with children and the age restrictions for traveling children.
