- The bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Romania, particularly the economic ones, are traced back to 1974, when Romania opened a commercial office in Dubai (The Office for Economic Promotion and Cooperation), an important moment that had economic and historical implications, thus developing the cooperation relations between the two countries.
- That step reflected the desire of both countries to strengthen economic relations and develop common grounds for economic and commercial cooperation in all sectors, which further led to enhancing the relations between the two countries and to establishing formal diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and Romania, in August 1989.
