Visitor's Guide:

  • United Arab Emirates nationals coming to the Republic of Ethiopia must declare to customs officials upon entry, of any amounts with them exceeding $ 3000, by filling a declaration form at the airport. Declaration form can be inquired upon entry.
  • You must declare to the customs authorities at the airport, upon the arrival, of any quantities of gold and silver.
  • It is not allowed to carry large professional cameras when entering Ethiopia, without a prior permission from the Ethiopian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
  • Ethiopia does not allow wildlife hunting, UAE visitors to Ethiopia must be aware of the regulations, and must obtain a license from the concerned authorities or through travel and tourism agencies.
  • It is not allowed to carry more than two mobile phones and one laptop when entering Ethiopia.
  • Passengers departing from Ethiopia with more than 3000 dollars must submit the endorsed declaration of foreign currency upon entry.
  • When converting foreign currency to the local currency Birr, while staying in Ethiopia, exchange receipts must be kept. Without this, any excess money of local currency cannot be transferred back to foreign currency, when leaving Ethiopia.
  • It is allowed to carry a maximum of 10 kg of Ethiopian coffee beans upon leaving Ethiopia.
  • Original invoices must be kept when buying antiques, and an export certificate for the antiques must be obtained, to take them outside Ethiopia, otherwise the antiques will be confiscated.
  • Possession of ivory is strictly prohibited, the penalty ranges between 5,000-25,000 Birr fine.
  • Visitors from United Arab Emirates to Ethiopia should take care and caution and avoid crowded places.
